Catholic Charities-El Programa Hispano,
located in Gresham, has been offering an array of social services
to the Latino community since 1982. El Programa Hispano
is a provider of school-based and school-linked services that
offer a wide range of academic support, advocacy and assistance
to Latino youth.
El Programa Hispano's Youth Retention Team offers drop-in
services, tutoring assistance, homework clubs, cultural clubs
and events, enrichment activities (girls' clubs, soccer clubs,
special event planning), health fairs, service-based learning
activities, community service projects, plus a host of activities
for Latino parents. The Gang Outreach program, through strength-based
client relationships, offers outreach, after-school activities,
parent involvement and education to the Latino community.
El Programa Hispano is expanding its services to
youth in 2004 with participation in Multnomah County's School-Age
Policy Framework and the SUN School program ("Schools
Uniting Neighborhoods”).
A companion program of Catholic Charities, Centro de Apoyo,
in Canby, Oregon, offers similar programs throughout Clackamas
County. Northwest Family Services provides classes in both
English and Spanish for parents and teens in conjunction with
both programs. Parents will also be involved in school enrichment,
volunteer and leadership activities, helping to promote their
children's educational success.
