Northwest Family Services (NWFS) has been serving teens and
families across the nation since 1983. NWFS is the fiscal
agent for a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,
Maternal Child and Health Bureau, SPRANS grant. One goal of
the Talk to Them project is to encourage parents to talk to
their children about sex as well as the benefits of waiting.
NWFS programs are nationally recognized. Our curricula and
performances have been independently evaluated among diverse
populations and found to be effective.
Our focus is to empower youth so they will make positive
life choices. These choices include sexual abstinence as well
as avoiding an array of negative risk behaviors. Effective
abstinence education helps teens with character development,
healthy relationships, self-respect, goal setting, good decision-making,
and positive communication. Abstinence is the best sexual
choice because it helps them to be physically and emotionally
healthy. As more and more young people make the decision to
abstain, we seek to support and encourage that choice through
our programs and resources.
For the past 15 years, Northwest Family Services has been
providing programs to schools, communities, and families.
As our Portland-based nonprofit organization has grown, so
has the depth and breadth of our offerings. Currently, we
address elementary, middle, and high school audiences in both
English and Spanish through a variety of dynamic and interactive
programs throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. Other
support services are offered throughout the United States.
In addition, we provide educational programs and resources
for teachers, parents, and families.
NWFS offers:
- Elementary, middle school, and high school curricula
and presentations
- Teen-enacted dramas in both English and Spanish
- Community presentations on a variety of topics
- Family workshops for teens and their parents
As parents, you are the primary educators of your children.
