Stop and Think is an abstinence education
program that began in Lane County in 1990. In 2000 Stop and
Think began offering its classroom presentation throughout
Oregon. More recently the curriculum has been adapted for
implementation throughout the United States. Stop and Think
focuses on three critical thinking skills, with an emphasis
on the freedom that can be gained through self-control. Stop
and Think helps students think critically by addressing media
and social influences, life, character, and relationship goals,
the implications of sexual decisions, the benefits of abstinence,
and refusal skills.
Presentations are offered at no cost in most places across
Oregon.
- Stop and Think presents to 7-12 grade students.
- Stop and Think can be given in 2-6 classroom sessions.
- Stop and Think is delivered by trained and certified adult
presenters.
- In September 2004 Stop and Think will debut Stop and Think:
The Redux, which is specifically designed for high school
students.
- Parent education is available in some areas through Stop
and Listen.
